Convergence of the Magnus Series
نویسندگان
چکیده
The Magnus series is an infinite series which arises in the study of linear ordinary differential equations. If the series converges, then the matrix exponential of the sum equals the fundamental solution of the differential equation. The question considered in this paper is: When does the series converge? The main result establishes a necessary condition for convergence, which improves on several earlier results.

Exponential integrators for coupled self-adjoint non-autonomous partial differential systems
We consider the numerical integration of coupled self-adjoint non-autonomous partial differential systems. Under convergence conditions, the solution can be written as a series expansion where each of its terms correspond to solutions of linear time dependent matrix differential equations with oscillatory solutions that must be solved numerically. In this work, we analyze second order of Magnus...
متن کاملA Class of Convergent Series with Golden Ratio Based on Fibonacci Sequence
In this article, a class of convergent series based on Fibonacci sequence is introduced for which there is a golden ratio (i.e. $frac{1+sqrt 5}{2}),$ with respect to convergence analysis. A class of sequences are at first built using two consecutive numbers of Fibonacci sequence and, therefore, new sequences have been used in order to introduce a new class of series. All properties of the se...
متن کاملFirst report of Vulvovaginitis due to Cryptococcus magnus in Iran
Background and Purpose: Cryptococcus. magnus is a non-Cryptococcus neoformans species isolated from certain plants, soil, air, and arctic glaciers. Case report: This report describes a case of a 23-year-old Iranian female with pruritus and vaginal irritation. Conventional tests and molecular analysis of the samples of vaginal discharge were performed. The mentioned analyses revealed Cryptoc...
متن کاملThe Magnus expansion and some of its applications
Approximate resolution of linear systems of differential equationswith varying coefficients is a recurrent problem, shared by a number of scientific and engineering areas, ranging from QuantumMechanics to Control Theory. When formulated in operator or matrix form, the Magnus expansion furnishes an elegant setting to build up approximate exponential representations of the solution of the system....
متن کاملSufficient conditions for the convergence of the Magnus expansion
Two different sufficient conditions are given for the convergence of the Magnus expansion arising in the study of the linear differential equation Y ′ = A(t)Y . The first one provides a bound on the convergence domain based on the norm of the operator A(t). The second condition links the convergence of the expansion with the structure of the spectrum of Y (t), thus yielding a more precise chara...
